At our recent weekly meeting
, the Rotary Club of Karrinyup was delighted to induct
 new member Kevin,
who comes to us with a background in community service
 having been the founding
Vice President of the Rotaract Club of Mt. Lawley.
 His classification is bookkeeping and,
with his background, he is a natural fit for the
Community Service Committee, where he will serve.

Paul Harris Fellow

Rotary Club of Pinjarra

Presentation of Paul Harris Fellow to Rob Davis.

Congratulations to Rob Davis who was awarded
Paul Harris Fellow at our Club Meeting last week.
In announcing the award, President Willie Brown
spoke about Paul Harris, the aims and objectives of Rotary,
 and how Rob fulfilled those
, having undertaken a broad range of roles
since joining the club in 2004.

Rob has been involved in most committees,
has been a Director of these,
and was Club President in 2015-2016
. In an unusual presidential year,
he played a major leadership role in supporting the efforts
of the club regarding fund raising to support
 the farmers and community members
who were devastated by the bushfires.
Rob took on financial management and accountability roles
 with our Rotarians,
and was the ‘go to’ for maintaining current information,
 liaising with our Rotary District,
and providing feedback as a speaker
for many of the clubs who donated funds.

President Willie invited DG Linda McLerie
to assist in presenting Rob with the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Convicts for a Cause

THE Rotary Clubs of Perth and Mt Lawley
helped raise a record $100,000 for several charities
at Convicts for a Cause at Fremantle Prison this month.
Former WA Chief Scientist Lyn Beazley
and Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt were among 60 inmates
who were bailed out while Rotary of Perth (ROP) member
and Senator Dean “The Judge” Smith set bail for the “baddies”.
The proceeds will be shared between
the Rotary Club of Mt Lawley, Cystic Fibrosis WA,
Diabetes Research WA
and ROP’s Reflections Through Reality Foundation
that funds research to find a cure for mesothelioma.
Professor Beazley, who is patron
of the Reflections Through Reality Foundation,
 was bailed out for $500
and said she had a little vice regal help from Governor Kerry Sanderson
“I was thrilled to be part of such a worthy event,”
Prof Beazley, whose grandchildren sold hand-made bracelets
to contribute to her fundraising tally, said.

“It is such terrific way to support charities that,
through world leading research and support programs,
are changing lives for the better – now and into the future.”

Rotary Club of Attadale

The Rotary Club of Attadale's major International project this year
is to assist The School of St Yared's in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
Here is some interesting facts on Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has a population of approx 94 million
and is one of the twenty poorest Countries in the World
but with one of the fasting growing economies.
Their are about 4 million Orphans in Ethiopia
mainly due to famine and HIV.
Last week Attadale Rotarian Mick Donnes gave a presentation
on The School of St Yared in Ethiopia to the
 Rotary Club of Mundaring.
Their Club members showed a keen interest
 and will consider
at their next Board meeting the Attadale Club's request
 to assist with funding.
Colin McCulloch and Mal Bennett accompanied Mick
 for an interesting night out.
It is always enlightening to visit other clubs
and see the different ways of doing things
and also getting some good ideas.
A great idea at Mundaring was their use
of a beautifully bound Visitors Book.
